Current German courses

Dear course participants!

Since january 2012, MERIDIAN is a certified partner of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF).

At MERIDIAN, you can study German at level A2 or B1 for the ÖIF test in German. You attend the course and take the test here in our school. The test will be corrected by the ÖIF, the certificate will be sent to you by mail.

Level A2: After receiving the initial residence permit in Austria, migrants have two years during which they must prove that you have reached level A2.

Level B1: Migrants who are applying for permanent residence in Austria and/or Austrian citizenship need level B1 German skills.

As a beginner you will need about 4 months in the intensive course to reach the A2 level.

Basic rule:
After passing the examination and if you comply with all the conditions, you have a right to financial aid. The financial aid covers a maximum of 300 class hours or 50% of the course costs, a maximum of € 750. The voucher is valid for 18 months.

The integration courses are part of the Integration Agreement. They are needed for your residence permit or permanent residence or citizenship.
Part of the fee will be refunded after the test.

After passing the examination, the ÖIF will reimburse 50% of the course fees (up to a maximum of 750 €).

Which Tests Are There?

ÖIF Test 2006

Since 2006, this test is carried out at many institutions in Austria. It is regarded as the officially recognized proof of German language skills at level A2. The test lasts 90 minutes and checks German language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Practical skills are given more emphasis than e.g. knowledge of grammar.

The ÖIF test 2006 will be available until 30 june 2014 for all those people who are committed to fulfill the integration agreement 2006 until 30 june 2011. This ensures that all those who have prepared themselves for the ÖIF Test 2006 can attend this test.

ÖIF Test 2011 (ÖIF Test NEW)

This test is a revised version of the ÖIF Test 2006. Since August of 2011, this new version is available at the A2 level and is an officially recognized language proficiency certificate of German language skills. It can be used to fulfill the Integration Agreement 2011 (Module 1).
From 7 january 2014, the ÖIF test 2006 will be finally replaced by the ÖIF test NEW.

The ÖIF Test New is divided into a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 85 minutes, the oral part 10 minutes. The oral part is largely identical with that of the ÖIF test 2006. In the written part, the form that had to be filled in is replaced by a short letter.
The new test takes into account the everyday reality of the target group of immigrants.

The ÖIF Test New has the advantage that the receptive skills of reading and listening, which are often a major hurdle for language students, can be evaluated together. Thus, the candidates can compensate for individual weaknesses in one module by strengths in other modules.

Language vouchers

Migrants get financial support in form of blue ÖIF federal vouchers. Under certain circumstances, the authorities – the municipal or district administration – give the voucher to family members, i.e. either spouses or young children of Austrians, Swiss citizens, EEA citizens and third country nationals.

50% of course fees (up to a maximum of 750 €) will under certain circumstances be repaid by the ÖIF.

Basic rules

After passing the examination and if you comply with all the conditions, you have a right to financial aid. The financial aid covers a maximum of 300 class hours or 50% of the course costs, a maximum of € 750. The voucher is valid for 18 months.

Sample Calculation

You attend a German integration course with 300 lessons, for which you have paid 1,000€. Your voucher has been issued on July 1st, 2011. On 20 November 2012 you have passed your exam at level A2. Since you have completed the course successfully within eighteen months, your voucher is still valid.
In addition to your certificate, you will get 50 percent of your course fees refunded, i.e. 500 € (50 percent of 1,000 €).
Caution: When you pass the exam on 20 March 2013 or at an even later date, your coupon has expired and you will NOT be refunded any course fee!
